In Loving Memory Cards

Not always the nicest cards in the world to have to make, but I'm very pleased with the way these came out. I've stuck with muted shades and browns to match the train image. The train is a topper from the Papermania range and the backgrounds have been done onto Kraft card with Distress ink. There are a few DIY Card Candies too (Click HERE for a tutorial) which I've then covered with Anita's 3D Clear Gloss.

It's Raining!!

Yes, okay, I know rain is usually bad. But my craft room is right at the front of the house. And that means in the weather we've been having recently I haven't been able to spend any length of time in there. Which in turn means there are cardmaking bits dotted around the various cooler bits of my house! Mainly on the kitchen table getting in the way!
But this weekend I got the chance to spend a whole day crafting!! And it's been wonderful.

The first thing I needed to make was a thinking of you card for a friend. I wanted to keep it nice and simple, and knowing he likes Vintage I went for a muted colour scheme.

I started off with the lovely Gorjus card blanks, and a set of clear stamps with a nice flower on them.

I went for Gorjus because they're such nice quality cards, and there's a lovely old fashioned, almost wallpapery design in them.

So, this next bit is a fun reverse glitter technique using vellum. I've stamped my flower onto vellum using the Black Soot Distress Ink. Next, I've used a small piece of the A4 double Sided Adhesive sheets form Stix2 and stuck it to the back of my design.

Then I've cut out my flower using the XCut precision scissors.

And glittered the reverse with the Cosmic Shimmer Polished Silk Glitter. One of the nice things about this glitter is it's so fine, and it sticks so well that you can put foam pads onto it and they won't fall off! They'll hold nicely.

And viola! The finished card:

I think it's the little details that make all the difference to a project. On the front of the flower I've added a few dots with a gluepen and a teeny bit of glitter. The vellum has been edged in Tim Holtz Distress embossing powder. Really easy to do, just run a clear ink around the edge, sprinkle on the powder, then heat. I've added a couple of pearls to the corners and finished off with the silver straight line borders.

Now for the insert! I wanted to put in a nice vellum insert to match the vellum on the front. But as we all know, vellum is a nightmare to glue!
Luckily we have a solution!! The vellum glue that actually works! It's Beacons 3 in 1 Craft Glue. I know a lot of people have already had it waved at them when they come in the shop! Because it is just such fantastic sticky stuff. It dries in a matter of seconds, but yet it leaves you enough time to wobble things around if you've popped them on wonky. And most importantly it truly is invisible on vellum.

So, add a thin line along the fold of your insert:

Then put it into place inside the card. And look at that! Properly invisible vellum glue!

Brilliant!

So what have all of you been making in the rain?
